Cubist Revival

The ‘80s are back and the puzzle is why we ever let them go away says Rebecca Hanford

SPANDEX alert! Bath's Pavilion is going retro on Saturday and bringing the 80s back to the city. Cue the ripped jeans and leather bracelets of all those wannabe Material Girls as the Gold 80's Night comes to town.

Cheesy music from the decade of Adam Ant, Spandau and Duran Duran has been making a comeback for years but in the wake of recent films set in the era, a new generation is starting to realise we did actually wear that stuff and a fashion revival has hit the high street.

Michael Jackson fads, drainpipe jeans, home-made T-shirts tie dyed or sprayed with stencils of random words, shoulder pads and Billy Idol hair are just a few of the fads that are creeping back in. Saturday's fun and games should see all that chic to the fore as hosts S&B Enterprise urge us all to dress to impress in the '80s style.

The fun starts at 8pm and there's live music from Kick Up The Eighties starting at 9:30pm to provide a very different retro show. Complete with a fully licensed bar and food, the light shows and dancing should keep the mood going til 1am.

Although some of us look back and cringe at the brat pack films wondering if there was something in the water. I deduce it can only be the music that inspired the outfits. So what more of an excuse do you need? Root out some flannel shirts and call the Pavilion box office on 01225 486976 or call Bath Sports Centre and have the tickets delivered to your door on 07970 082702

Tickets are £10 for the night and transport is running from surrounding areas for just £1.50 For details of pick up points and times ring 07970 082702.
